I might get ideas from my ex-friends experience. Her husband used to be involved in Lott here in Canberra, through work.

Can't remember what they contributed but the rules were clear. If you went away on holidays, and weren't paid up, and they won, you received nothing. (Public Service rules).

They were going away on holidays and she persuaded him not to worry about paying, given they never ever won.

But they did, and all members got 50 grand. he was livid.

Can I make a better story out of this experience????
