Fred Hollows, an ophthalmologist, is best known for his pro bono work within the Aboriginal people. If Fred were alive today, he’d be shocked to find the cost to have one cataract removed is $5000+.

We’re lunching at a trendy restaurant that sells the best EYE fillets.

‘So, Fred…plus five grand?’

‘Bloody ridiculous.’

‘He can’t afford it. He’ll go blind.’

‘No pro bono waiting lists?’

‘They’re eye-wateringly long. You couldn’t pop back for a couple of hours?’

‘If only. BUT I brought you this article. What can go wrong? Fresh baby coconuts are full of antioxidants. They’re red flags to cataracts.’’

‘Will it work?’

‘Who knows? Probably take time, but it’s worth a try.”

Impossible coconut pie for dessert, then?’

‘Why not…an antioxidant in action. Don’t mention the sugar!’
