Random Word Drabble Challenge Twisted September #267

Today’s drabble word is: quintessential

Introductory sentence is: The closest Walmart was eighty miles away.

The closest Walmart was eighty miles away, I was told.

Whatever. The statistic meant nothing.

As a quintessential Australian, all I was looking for was a replacement tyre to get me to the airport. Quality I was unconcerned about as I’d be ditching the vehicle.

“She’ll be right with this one mate,” the mechanic said, trying to emulate a well-coined Aussie phrase. “There! Now she’s apples.”

Miles down the track the tyre suddenly blew, I lost control, and my rental veered across the motorway straight into the sign.

A warm welcome to Walmart.

“Geez … thanks for nothing, Mate!”

Note: When I first came to Australia I was very confused by the idiomatic phrases … She’ll be apples meant everything would be okay. She’ll be right meant much the same. The ‘she’ really bothered me. Still does.
