As humans we are perfectly imperfect, and as such we draw so much strength from others, when we dare to bare our souls. It's not easy, but at the end of the day, when you have done so, there's a sorting out and an ordering that takes place, allowing the writer to move on, and to draw strength from others who read and make comment.
