Those were harsh times. I look back and find people's lack of empathy hard to credit. But then, life I suppose was difficult all round.

My mother's mother I believe was super-harsh on my mum, who, as you may recall, contracted polio when she was 18 months old.

I don't recall my grandmother ever helping her, or, her seven grandchildren.Interestingly she was super-proud of as we made our different ways in life. By that time though, it was too late.
