I wrote a few weeks ago about this very thing, and after we had resolved the issues in the classroom, and I'd led the students to realise they were engaged in war, whenever bad feeling arose the students would remind other students they were engaging in war.It always de-escalated the situation...always!

It starts in the cradle I believe.
