Don’t rain on my parade… this was Mario’s thought when Dean McLennan stood to announce his awards for excellence.

He’d called him the night before to ensure he would be there the next day. He knew! He was prepared.

If Maddy had been in line for one she’d have texted Mario to rub salt into the wound.

At the end of the assembly, and eyeing him, she had the hide to ask this fearsome question.

“Is it possible the grades have been mixed up, Sir?”

“Not a chance, Maddy. No luck… just pure hard, honest work. Isn’t that right Mario?”

If you’re not already on board with writing drabbles (short, 100-word stories, no more, no less), do yourself a favour. Get stuck in! They are a lot of fun to write but also serve as a lesson in tight writing, given the 100-word constraint.

Here is the link to Nancy Oglesby’s Fiction Shorts, where you may join and write spell-binding drabbles.
